I think the idea of a biodeisel vehicle for our "mobile place" is really
exciting! That would be so cool. I would love to see some interested
folks starting to get specific about envisioning a design for the "mobile
place, and I'm looking forward to whatever shape those design sessions and
the place itself may take.
Since we're not yet an "organization" in any legal or even structural
sense at this point,(I'm actually an advocate of city repair becoming
~network~ rather than an ~organization~, but that's a topic for another
day. .. ) for now, from a paperwork perspective, I think it makes more
sense for a vehicle (or any other stuff ~we~ have) to be owned and
registered and insured etc by an individual who has control and ultimate
responsibility for it. (: That DOESN'T mean people can't chip in to help
pay for it or take care of it! :)
For you Aaron, who is so excited to get DOING, I would offer 2
suggestions. (Actually I offer these for all of us to consider--)
First, since you have such a great running start(the rest of us should be
so lucky), I invite you to continue your design process with your
neighbors on your block and do some more potlucking and some more
extemporary and experimental stuff in your own front yard. Start where you
are. Use what you have. Remember City Repair is mostly about people
connecting to each other right at their own home crossroads. Act
Locally-- micro-locally even.
Second I would encourage us to use these listserves to post invites to any
work-parties, projects, presentations design/dreaming sessions or
gatherings we are having that might give us a chance to meet and mingle
and work to gether in any context that lets us get connected. We need to
spend some time connecting to each other, exploring our interests,
enthusiams, and our resources. It doesn't matter whether it's an
~official~ City Repair thing or not. What would that even mean anyway?
~We~ are whatever we (each) are doing with a neighborly spirit wherever we
(each or collectively) are right now.
In Joy--
Cheryl
